re: Superheroes, crazy cats and more!...
Comics have come a LONG way since their 1775 debut in Japan by Koikawa Harumachi. Today we often associate comics with Superheroes. While most superheroes have their roots in comics (Mandrake the Magician being the FIRST superhero in 1936 followed by The Phantom in 1938) comics and comic strips featured MANY more types of characters and stories! Their unique combination of stories with images presented sequentially create an experience that is greater than the sum of their parts! Through the medium of comics, writers and artists can create entire worlds to explore and characters to know and love (or hate), limited ONLY by imagination! Comics are timeless, relevant and take on a life all their own that often surpasses the lives of their creators.
There is no other medium that accomplishes that!
But there is something else...MANY comics and comic strips are ALSO in the Public Domain! Because of that, creatives have a unique opportunity to use comic content in many new ways.
